Science Class This Week

In science class this week, we did a lot of things. We watched a movie on how the structure of double helix was found and how scientists found out the names of the bases that made up the double helix. This is a picture of the double helix labled.[left]To the right is a picture of the double helix and its parts.

In that movie, we also learnet that the DNA sends out a strand of messenger RNA[DNA, with only one strand] to the proteins and
commands them what to do.
We also learnt that you can interfear with someone's DNA, by sending a new RNA into the cell, and dthat re-instructs the cell do do what the RNA says.
Later in te week, we took a look at the DNA test results of the suspects in the class.After we compared all the DNA result, Mary had the same exact DNA sample as the hair that Mr. Finley found.
The next day we read our science text books and the book was about the cell cycle. All cells start from an existing cell. All cells could reproduce new cell and every new cell contins the origional DNA from the origional cell.
That is mainly what we learnt over the week.

science this week

Mainly, in science class this week, we did a lot of things. the most intresting thing that we did this week was; We did an online simulation of how to compare DNA samples. When a crime happens, at the crime scene, the cops take a sample of any DNA that is taken to the lab and is testd, by taking a water sample of the DNA and putting it in a whole in the electrogel.Then they put it in a box full of buffer,and send a electric currnt in it and that makes the DNA samplefall into the gel and makes it readible. Then the person evaluting the gel takes a look at it and determines the lenghts of the DNA strands.
This is a great tool to find a criminal who comited a crime. Scince everyone has different lenghs of DNA,when comparing the DNA to a suspect, you can tell whether they are the criminal.
The only negative thing about this this way to catch a criminal, is when a person gets a blood transfusion, and commit a crime,and they leave a little DNA, the person who donated the blood will be taken to jail.

Science this week

In science this week, we started to learn the funcutions of each cell organell.

We learnt there were two types of cells, a Eukaryotic cell and a Prokaryotic cell.
Eukaryotic cell- a cell that has a nucleas and more parts.

Prokaryotic cell- a cell that has no nucleas{ususly bacteria cells}.

Some of the parts of the Eukaryotic cell are labled on this website.

Some parts of a Prokaryotic cell are labled in the website below.

This is a picture comparing a prokaryotic cell and an eukaryotic cell.{right}

We also studied DNA. DNA is made up of Dioxyribos nuclear acid. There is two strands of sugar strands and the middle is made up of hydrogeon bonds. The DNA is spiraled and makes a doubel helix. This is how it looks:{below}

What Did we do in science this week?

This week in science, we did not do a lot because this week ws a shortened week.This is what we did on Monday, Tuesday,and Wednesday:

On Wednesday: On wednesday, we looked at the parts of a animal cell and labeled them.The parts of the animal cell and most of the parts of the plant cell are alike except that the plant cell has a big central vacuole. To the right are the parts the plant cell:

On Monday:On Monday, we finished labeling all the parts of a prokaryotic cell. This is how it looked.{To the Right}

On Tuesday:On Tuesday we labled the parts of the animal cell. This is how it looked and here are the parts of the cell too. It is on the bottom.

Mr. Finley, Over the week at science we went on this petri dish simulation to see how pacteria multiplies and and gets bigger and spreads. We also studied probiotics to see how they looked under a microscope, we saw yogurt bacteria ans they were dark and clumped together. Next we talked about kimchi,and mushrooms. Kimchi was cabbage in vinegar acid which made it pickled. Mushrooms are fungi and that suprized me that we eat fungi.
